Urban Richmond Engagement Session, Rachel & Joel

Rachel & Joel’s wedding is this weekend! So I wanted to throwback to their Urban Richmond Engagement Session! They unfortunately had to postpone their wedding in May 2021 but they still eloped and now we get their celebrate their anniversary/vow renewal with them at Linden Row!  It was so fun to look back at their engagement photo gallery to put together this blog post! We started at Rachel’s parents home, they have such a beautiful patio! We wandered around the neighborhood and then headed over to Belmont Food Shop! This is where Joel proposed to Rachel on July 18th 2019!

Their Love Story (told by Rachel):

We met performing on a children’s theatre tour of Treasure Island! A mutual friend told us she thought we would get along really well. I said yes we will and began to put a plan in motion to make Joel my best friend; Joel said “yeah we’ll see” because he’s very naturally skeptical. Luckily my amazing plan worked, and then worked too well, because turns out we fell in love. After the tour Joel left for 4 months for a gig in California, and after 3 months of long phone calls about how sad we were not to be together, I flew to see him and we had an amazing week in California.

When he came back, he was still living in Williamsburg and I was in Richmond, but we got to see each other a decent amount since we were both still working for the same theater in Richmond. I got a job with Royal Caribbean, which was a long time away. When I came back Joel had moved to Richmond, and I decided to stay in town. A year later we moved in together, and now we live in a great apartment in the Museum District with our maine coon cat, Higgins! We got engaged in July 2019 at Belmont Food Shop down the street from our place where we go often for cocktails, and then went to a show at the theater where we met!
